The Gatton Halls of Residence are the main residential facilities provided by the university to students attending The University of Queensland's Gatton campus. The Halls of Residence at UQ Gatton is the largest residential college associated with The University of Queensland and one of the largest in the country. It was established in 1897 and currently comprising 440 rooms. Students at the college mainly study within the NRAVS (Natural Resources, Agriculture and Veterinary Science) faculty, specialising in anything from animals sciences, wildlife, agricultural science and veterinary science. Students also completing Certificate studies also live on Halls.
The college comprises four separate halls made up of three buildings each. The fours halls include Shelton, Pitt, Thynne and Riddell. 2010 is the first year the Halls have operated at capacity since 1996. Until then only Pitt and Thynne were open and Riddell A and B. This was the first time in almost 15 years Shelton was opened and filled. Each building is occupied by a staff assistant on the lower lever and a senior resident staff on the upper level. Res staff are responsible for leadership in the halls and are students as well.
